Toshiba Portege R100 CMOS/BIOS PROBLEM at startup.

I am working on a Toshiba Portege R100 laptop. When I got it, the RTC batteryWas stone dead. I replaced it with a new one.When I turn the machine on, The Toshiba screen flashes on for1 or 2 seconds, then it goes to either one of two different screens. One screen says ( RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent !! ) Press F1 KEY to set DATE/TIME. If I hit F1, I go into the BIOS, but can do nothing at all in there. The other screen I get , once again, at startup, the Toshiba screen flashes on for 1 or 2 seconds, then it goes to a DOS LIKE screen, but only displays 8 or 9 characters i

Right click on the computer's destop and view the display properties. Under the tab where you can alter resolution you can manage multiple monitors, It sounds like your laptop is setup to display through it's external VGA by default. Click on the two squares it shows and try to set your main screen as default.

Toshiba R100 suddenly very slow(!)


I have a Toshiba Tecra M5 (s4332) and suddenly it too is very very slow. Takes about 6 minutes for fully boot up. It is very clean, defraged, no viruses, minimal software installed. Worked well, but now...it is painfully slow to do just about anything. Any suggestions?
