After removing the battery take a pice of wire or piece of metal and short the two battery terminals, where the battery  goes, together in  order to discharge the memory chips that hold the code, the restart it after replacing the battery. The charge can be held for hours without shorting it.

I have a toshiba satellite r15-s822. I am trying to remove the bios password. I removed the rtc battery. Is there another cmos battery on the motherboard? What am i doing wrong?

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link.In case of your Toshiba Satellite R15-S822 laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery (which is on the motherboard) or the jumper.

Cf-18 toughbook hi..got old cf-18 toughbook ,it hard small 6gb hard drive so tried to upgrade to 40gb but now nothing much happens on start up.will not reboot. want to try to remove bios battery but need to now how to reach as not on back . can u help ...many thanks ..mark

The BIOS may not support the larger drive at all; I suggest you look for a Toughbook forum and repost there and check Panasonic's site for a manual download and possibly a BIOS upgrade if the unit is equipped with a flash BIOS.

This information is intended for experienced users. It is not intended for basic users, hackers, or computer thieves. Please do not try any of following procedures if you are not familiar with computer hardware. I'll not be responsible for the use or misuse of this information, including personal injury, loss of data or hardware damage. So use it at your own risk.A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc. When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.B. By Using Software:I have found that BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is a program that works instantly to remove any lost or forgotten BIOS/CMOS password. Simply boot your PC to DOS and execute the program, and get access to forgotten BIOS/CMOS passwords in just secondsBIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool Service: http://www.biospasswordrecovery.com/

I have a Fujitsu stylistic ST5112 which powers on, all of a light show up, I can hear the hard drive spinning, I have it in the docking station in a DVD drive works, but what I turn it on all I get is a black screen. I call the Fujitsu's support and they said it was one of three things one: the motherboard was dead, too: there's a small part which attaches from the screen to the motherboard. That is often known to go bad. I'm getting old I can't remember the third thing. I tried every trick in the book to get it to go with nothing. I hoped it up to a external monitor and still nothing. I gently took the computer apart and make sure everything was connected properly and there were no problems there. How do I determine which part is bad?

Hi, Might be an LCD problem. Notice if the LCD monitor turns black when you turn it on, turns gray if you turn it off. That means the problem is the LCD, back light/inverter is not functioning anymore. Tell if that happens. Thanks for asking FixYa!

I installed a new HD in my travelmate and now it wants a Password before I can rebuild the system , I have no password and previous owner has no idea!! I have the recovery CD pack. I have tried to clear the special small battery that runs the computer by taking it out for a while, , not the removable one, but that didn't work either.

Hi. Just want to clarify if the password you mentioned is password for the computer or is it HD password? If it is an HD password, store where you purchase the HD should provide you this password. It is standard that HD device by default doesnt have password especially if it is brand new.
