Startup takes least a good 5 minutes

I don't use the tablet part of this PC.  Can anyone tell me how to disable the gizillion Toshiba "accessory" apps that come up with startup??? Of course I don't want to disable anything that is critical so I need to know what I can get rid of.  I don't use ANY of the Toshiba accessory items. When I need the PC, I need it super fast for the work I am involved in. Hate to buy a new one due to $$$ but I may have to .... this is just not working out. I'd love to get rid of most of the unnecessary Toshiba apps to speed up the startup of this PC.  I just added 1 gig more of RAM to th

Hi LynneYou may remove unnecessary startup items by using MSCONFIG utility. You may keep only Toshiba Touchpad utility and Essential security programs. Perform maintenance like using Disk clean up and disk error checking. Also using the performance settings definitely will create significant change. You Don't Need To Restore BIOS.... You Just Need To Allow To Boot TO Cd/DVD As Your First Boot Option... To Do THis.... Press the ESC or F10 Key As Soon As Powered On.. It will tell you what key to press on the screen as soon as the laptop boots.. one key brings you to your BIOS setup utility, the other key brings you to your boot options menu (ex: boot to HDD0, Boot To CD, Boot To LAN) THen EIther in the Boot Menu or in your BIOS setup you can set the CD/DVD to be your First Boot CHoice... Insert Your Recovery CD.... Reboot The Laptop If Still Not Able To Get Laptop To Boot From The Cd.... Tap The F12 Key When Powering On To Attempt to boot to it... My Toshiba Satellite R15-S822 has been working slower and slower

Some computers can be slow or short of hard drive space for quite simple reasons. Windows and other program hide temporary files in lots of different places The best option is not always a program or utility and if you want to do as much as you can for FREE like I do then you have a few options. 1. First you need to be in windows explorer. 2. Click TOOLS and FOLDER OPTIONS 3. Now click the VIEW tab 4. Tick the Show Hidden Files And Folders option Unpick Hide Protected Operating System Files (it may warn you but you can ignore it) 5. Click APPLY then OK 6. NOTE some files may not delete this is OK Also DO NOT DELETE the folder itself where mentioned for cleaning. 7. Using windows explorer go into the WINDOWS folder and look for a directory called TEMP (it is possible there may be more than one) 8. Select all the contents and delete them. Do the same for any other temp folder e.g. temp000 9. Now navigate to Documents and Settings There are quite a few folders in here that can be cleaned up 10. Look for folders named "Local Settings" In there you will find more TEMP folders that can be cleaned out 11. Now look inside the Temporary Internet Files. Delete anything EXCEPT cookies. Otherwise passwords for some sites you have stored may need you to type the password again. 12. Do this for each user / profile you see. 13. Now check the C: drive itself and see if there are any Temp folders and clean those out too To prevent accidental deletion of any files windows needs you should go back to step (4) and change the two settings back to their original
