Guide :Tablets & eReaders : Q1 Tablet PC

The University I work for recently bought a Q1 Ultra to help with mobility for our skilled trades workers. Samsung's literature says the Q1 Ultra works with Windows XP. It came with VISTA. When I called SAMSUNG SUPPORT they informed me YES it will work by down grading to XP but they don't support it. The University will not allow and VISTA based computer access to their network due to security issues. Now does anyone know where I can get XP drivers for the ethernet controllers, SB Bus controller and the Video controllers of the Q1Ultra? Seems to me if a manufacurer claims it will wor

Fresh vista install won't take and laptop acts all goofy

Seems like a hardware problem...Hard Disk Probably.but don't take chances...first remove any external hardware attached [usb, printer etc.remove the battery also]then try to install the OS use another CD or you can even use Windows XP.Make sure you change the SATA setting in the BIOS for XP. You did not mention the error message or when does it hangs while installing Vista.Try changing the Hard Disk.If there's still problem then it's your motherboard. As far as overheating is concerned you need to see how long does it remain powered on.And when you switch it on again does it turns off quicker than before. Take it to the service center.

Screeching noise My thinkpad x60 tablet has started to make a screeching noise a lot of times when I turn the sound up. I dual boot vista and ubuntu but the noise is only in vista and I do not hear it when I go into rescue and recovery either. It sounds like a feedback problem from the onboard mic because whenever I rub my finger against the mic I can hear it through the speakers and the screeching noise changes. I have tried turning the sound down on the mic all the way to zero, but I can still hear the screeching noise and I can still hear noise from the mic through the speakers. I tried disabling the mic, but it disabled my entire speaker system and everything and I had to reinstall soundMAX. After doing that I got my sound back but the mic also. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Right click on the speaker icon in your taskbar, select Open Volume Control. If you do not see the Microphone control select options>properties and select it from the list of check boxes. Press OK. Check the mute box for your microphone.

IBM X60 laptop won't start

It really does sound like a hardware problem, perhaps a motherboard/processor/memory issue. If there is no beeping but just humming that is just the fan and drives kicking up.I would recommend you take it into a repair shop and have them diagnose the issue.
