Forward slash on panasonic toughbook - Panasonic TOUGHBOOK CF-18 Tablet PC

It sounds like you have a ToughBook with a NON-US Keyboard or keyboard layout. The physical "SLASH" key is the last key on the bottom row above the SPACEBAR row. It is the key on the FAR right side just to the left of the right-side SHIFT key. Make sure in the taskbar that the EN sign is shown (on the bottom right side of the screen next to the date/time. If it is shown FR or ES then your keyboard is in French or Spanish. You can try to use the ALT+SHIFT key combination to toggle the FR or ES back to EN (English). If not, then you must ADD the English keyboard in the Control Panel under Regional Settings (Clock, Language and Region in Windows 7). Under Keyboards Click "keyboard" then Click "add" then choose English (United States), Keyboard then US (only). That is it. Make sure you select US as "Default" and then you won't have to go thru all this ever again. Good Luck! Regards, Richard - Montreal Based Panasonic Canada Toughbook Authorized Dealer since 1989.

Panasonic TOUGHBOOK CF-18 Took out HD to reload windows as it would not load but stuck at the safe / last known good config etc. Loaded XP onto HD via an ACER laptop and reinserted it into ToughBook - same problem. So put ACER HD in Toughbook - same problem back in ACER no problems. Could it be the FPC ide cable? It recognises both HD's and their capacities but that is all. THx Ruth

I think your actually having issues getting it to run on the toughbook because it uses different drivers for everything from the Acer computer. If you press F8 while booting up you can choose the option "Disable automatic restart (of system errors or something)". Then when the machine boots up you should get a blue screen giving you an error code like "IRQ_EQUAL_TO_OR_GREATER_X Error: 0x0000005f. You could try to see what the message is trying to tell you to resolve it but the error msg would likely point to the driver that its trying to load that's most likely different from the toughbook you have. I'd suggest getting an external cdrom/dvdrom and install windows from a disc onto the toughbooks hd while its in that toughbook machine.
