I've had many problems with my M2, is the engineering rubbish? never could understand how a modern notebook battery/ motherboard could only last 1 year . All this 1 month out of warranty and the machine died completely, i could hear capacitors making all kinds of noise and since then it randomly works for 3 months at a time..never buying a tosh again! It's a shame the machine is light and easy to use..just failure prone.Might go a Dell simply cos i am typing this on a 10 year old Dell Inspiron 7000 (a time when computers were built to last it seems) with more battery life than any new notebook! ahhhhgggg

I want to completly restore my Tecra M4 to an "as delivered" condition. What keys do I press at start up to do this?? Or is there another technique??

Hold down the zero (0) key on the Tecra keyboard whilst turning the power on. You should hear a series of beeps and be presented with a restore menu where you select option 1, 2 or 3 depending on your circumstances.

Clean dust from tablet pc screen

You have to remove the screw covers (the black squares around the screen), remove the screws and gentley pry the cover open with yor finger nails or a flat head screw driver, but be careful not to dent the sides with the screw driver. You can then take a can of air and blow the dust out. I would not touch the sensetive screen under neath. You could take a anti static, micro fiber cloth to wipe off the tough stuff.

My tx2500z crashed today and wont start anymore

It could have happened due to an electrical surge . And the system board or the fuse box has to be changed . Customers are requested to buy extended service packs when offered. They helo you in a lot of ways . Even if you were in warranty it would not help because that comes under the accidental damage .

Estrange characters appears in my tecra m4 645 nvidia

The video card has unseated or is fried due to overheating. The typical repair is to replace the entire motherboard which will cost about US$600 from a technician. The graphics chip GPU is soldered onto the motehrboard. I ahve heard some people cooking the GPU to reflow the solder if it is an unseated GPU chip that came loose but I have not tried this myself. This is a common problem of Tecra M4's and I have been through this problem 4 times in the past 4 years, each with expensive motherboard replacements.

Best bet may be to look for a second Laptop for spare parts use boteh to fix one and then sell the remaining spare parts. Or sell yours for spare parts and you buy a new one.

Techies, please help! I've been having problems with my Toshiba R15-S822... I get the BSOD when I try to load Windows, but I can start in Safe Mode just fine. I've tried multiple things - system restore, deleting newly installed programs, etc. but nothing worked. I backed up my files and decided to use the Recovery DVD (yes, it is the right DVD), but I get an error message that says "Wrong machine." Changed the boot priority in BIOS to make sure it boots from the CD-rom first, but I still get the same "wrong machine" message. I called Toshiba and they said it's likely a "low level BIOS" problem of some sort and that I would have to take it to a service center to fix it. It's such an old laptop but I like having it as a backup and using the tablet function on occasion...I don't really want to shell out any money to get it fixed. Are there any techies out there who have suggestions on how I can fix this? Thanks!

Toshiba support could be quite correct and service center solution the only one.You could try this from the command line window in safe mode.Open a command window and type CHKDSK /r (there is a space between K&r). It will tell you the drive is locked and would you like it to happen on reboot. Enter y then exit and reboot. It's got me out of trouble a few times.
