Problems with Tablet PC

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6848 and I am trying to figure some of the programs out, such as the touchpad. I dont know what I need to run it and I also have never used something like this and the computer itself has very little information about it. I would appreciate any information about this topic or anything else that might be handy in me getting more knowledgable about my computer. Thank you very much in advance.

Suggested Questions And Answer :

Space Bar First started noticing that, without touching space bar, a continuous stream of "spaces" was being input into the address bar (I was on-line at the time). Then, shut off/restart, and the space bar does not work. Took the key off, re-attached the small wire "spring" and the key... The space bar worked briefly but is now incapacitated again. ** I don't know if the "spring" was already detached when I took the key off or if it detached when I did so. So, before I call in a "professional" (I'm hardly a professional myself), I figured I'd find a site on-line and ask a potentially simple question. Does anybody know if this could merely be the spring detached or do I have a bigger problem on my hands? How would anybody on this site go about getting this diagnosed/fixed without getting into big bucks? BTW: My Toshiba has been kind of problematic, with a defective Graphics card/driver (don't know which was the problem) that cost me more down-time than I could withstand easily... I like this tablet but, man,... based on this and other Toshiba products (TVs) I've owned, I seriously question their basic reputation... Any feedback on THAT? Thanks

Sounds like something's not making contact properly. I don't think you're going to have much success getting that key to work, at least on a permanent basis. If your computer is under warranty, this merits a replacement keyboard. If it's not under warranty, replacement keyboards can be found online from parts providers or on eBay. Just make sure to get the right one for your model. You can usually install them yourself quite easily (typically three or four screws, five minutes or less). If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, it's a very basic repair and if a service provider sounds like he wants to charge you too much, he probably is. Keyboards run in the $30-70 range depending on your model, and I wouldn't pay too much more than $30 to have it installed. Forget places like the Geek Squad; a local shop can probably do it cheaper. I'd say altogether you're looking at $50-100 installed. And as for your other question... I work servicing computers, and Toshiba machines are by far the worst products I've encountered. I don't recommend them to anyone. I haven't had much luck with other Toshiba electronics, but then again I haven't used them extensively either. Hope this helps. Javabytes

Techies, please help! I've been having problems with my Toshiba R15-S822... I get the BSOD when I try to load Windows, but I can start in Safe Mode just fine. I've tried multiple things - system restore, deleting newly installed programs, etc. but nothing worked. I backed up my files and decided to use the Recovery DVD (yes, it is the right DVD), but I get an error message that says "Wrong machine." Changed the boot priority in BIOS to make sure it boots from the CD-rom first, but I still get the same "wrong machine" message. I called Toshiba and they said it's likely a "low level BIOS" problem of some sort and that I would have to take it to a service center to fix it. It's such an old laptop but I like having it as a backup and using the tablet function on occasion...I don't really want to shell out any money to get it fixed. Are there any techies out there who have suggestions on how I can fix this? Thanks!

Toshiba support could be quite correct and service center solution the only one.You could try this from the command line window in safe mode.Open a command window and type CHKDSK /r (there is a space between K&r). It will tell you the drive is locked and would you like it to happen on reboot. Enter y then exit and reboot. It's got me out of trouble a few times.

Power/plug problem Hi. I have a Toshiba tecra tablet M4 and love it but new problem: The little metal rod that the power cord plugs into/onto fell off!! I stuck it back on but it was loose and I had to wiggle the power cord to get the lights to come on [tech wiz here]. That worked for a while. Now no power at all. Can't charge the battery or use the machine. I REALLY don't want to buy a new one if this is a somewhat easy fix. I have no problem with a screwdriver and opening the back up, I just have no clue what to replace. Thanks in advance!!!! KAW

First you need to see if the dc plug looks like this http://www.laptopjacks.com/view_part/Toshiba-Laptop-DC-Power-Jack-TS312030.htmlif it does its just a simple unplug and replace .

Blank Screen Aloha, I am having a problem with my Toshiba Satellite R-15. I was on it the other night when the screen went blank and it was was still running. I thought the battery or the connection was the problem,so I turned the power off and the laptop would boot up and still no monitor. I did turn the screen so it was on tablet mode, when this all happened and the screen was on for about a minute or so thats when it went blank(do not know if that makes a difference or not) Do you have any suggestions on what to do? I do not have a reference manual to help troubleshoot. Mahalos Willy J

The bad thing about this is that it could be a software related issue or a hardware issue. If you're willing, you can disassemble the unit and check for a damaged or loose connector to the monitor. If there doesn't appear to be any issues there it may well be that the screen has gone bad or there is something wrong with the driver/setting on the unit itself that is causing the screen to saty off. I'd move forward with the hardware issue first though.
