Every once in a while my keyboard doesn't work

It will boot as if everything is fine, but when I go to type, nothing. None of the other keys work either. If I re-boot, then go into Bios and use the keyboard, it works fine. Then if I re-boot into Windows XP(SP2), the keyboard works fine. I checked the driver and it uses the 2001 driver that comes with XP. Is there an updated driver that I should be using? It's a real annoyance. Thanks! Christopher Orlando

Yurning up volume

I'm going to make an assumption (assume=*** of u & me) that you are dealing with an Intel/Win machine. If not, forget everything I wrote here. It's helpful if you mention what your system and OS is. You will need to click or double click on the speaker symbol on the task bar; if organized as common, it will be on the right. On Win XP, a single click opens only the voulume control, double click gives you a detailed panel (different audio cards/chips look different since this is a software function) that allows you to control the level of different inputs or file types. The presence of a speaker symbol on the escape button is kind of puzzling but may be a function of an extended keyboard that requires a manufacturer's device driver to be loaded when you boot. That may not be loading. (Some icons may require double clicks-) If yes, then click on the Start menu, select Control Panel, then Sounds & Audio devices (or similar), this will show you if the sound is muted and let you select default volume level and tell you whose audio is installed. If it looks OK, close the window and then click on the System icon, then Hardware, finally Device Manager. Check the list for open folders that involve sound devices for any red 'X' on functions. If you find one, then something hasn't been installed or turned on and since we don't know the exact system you have, it may require different methods of 'fixing' the problem and then you will need a friendly nerd nearby to help you.

My Toshiba Satellite R15-S822 has been working slower and slower

Some computers can be slow or short of hard drive space for quite simple reasons. Windows and other program hide temporary files in lots of different places The best option is not always a program or utility and if you want to do as much as you can for FREE like I do then you have a few options. 1. First you need to be in windows explorer. 2. Click TOOLS and FOLDER OPTIONS 3. Now click the VIEW tab 4. Tick the Show Hidden Files And Folders option Unpick Hide Protected Operating System Files (it may warn you but you can ignore it) 5. Click APPLY then OK 6. NOTE some files may not delete this is OK Also DO NOT DELETE the folder itself where mentioned for cleaning. 7. Using windows explorer go into the WINDOWS folder and look for a directory called TEMP (it is possible there may be more than one) 8. Select all the contents and delete them. Do the same for any other temp folder e.g. temp000 9. Now navigate to Documents and Settings There are quite a few folders in here that can be cleaned up 10. Look for folders named "Local Settings" In there you will find more TEMP folders that can be cleaned out 11. Now look inside the Temporary Internet Files. Delete anything EXCEPT cookies. Otherwise passwords for some sites you have stored may need you to type the password again. 12. Do this for each user / profile you see. 13. Now check the C: drive itself and see if there are any Temp folders and clean those out too To prevent accidental deletion of any files windows needs you should go back to step (4) and change the two settings back to their original

Keyboard Jiberish I have a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook T4010D Tablet PC. I was using it outside when it started to rain. I got it out of the rain and I'm pretty sure it didn't get wet. I did however keep using it for about 3 hours when the keyboard became unresponsive. I shut it down and when I restatrted a few days later the keyboard writes jiberish. Every key does something other than what it should do. I'm thinking that the keyboard must have got wet and therefore needs replacing. Also, the 4 tablet buttons aren't working. Any ideas?

It could also be the logic board. Usually, there are weep / drainage holes in the bottom of the laptop. See if there's any traces of moisture there, and you'll know if it got wet or not.Sounds like it could have been wet. You could try replacing the keyboard.

Toshiba Satellite 1905

First, try pluging in an exteral mic to check the mic itself is not broke. Next Go to the device manager to check for driver problems (control panel, system, Hardware look for yellow ?'s) Check control panel, Sounds and Audio, audio, sound recording, volume. There are just too many ways to mess with the sound settings, and they often seem to just mute themselves!Good luck
