My company uses Panasonic Toughbook CF-18. We have ones that are over a year old, over 6 month old, and even just a few months old. In the past few weeks we started experiencing a problem where the units are shutting off by themselves. Totally losing power and shutting off. It doesn't happen when plugged into AC Power. The units only shut off when they are tapped hard or hit somewhere. Sometimes also by a quick movement or even when you close the LCD screen. We tried using spacers (a foam piece between the battery and the battery door) to stop or limit battery movement. Although this helps, it doesn't solve the problem. No matter how tight and what measures I take to keep the battery in it's place, chalking it until it can't moves. The unit still shut off when impacted. Can't some other internal component be causing this? What else can I do?

My m1300 works great as long as it is plugged into the AC power adapter (with or without battery installed) but shuts off immediately if unplugged even though the battery is 100% charged (I even tried a brand new battery).

Hello, Take the battery out of your device and inspect the pins on the tablet. If they are very dirty or if something is stuck between pins, it could cause the battery to fail at transferring the correct power for the device in order for it to stay on. If all the pins look ok and it still doesn't work after putting the battery back in, you may have an issue with the motherboard which will need to be serviced by the manufacture. Here are some battery LED codes from the manual: LED steady green --> battery 100% charged AC plugged in LED steady amber --> battery charging AC plugged in LED steady red --> battery overheated or defective (replace it) LED flashing green and amber --> battery discharging abnormally (replace it) LED slow-flashing amber --> 10% battery charge remaining AC unplugged LED fast-flashing amber for only a few seconds --> 3% battery charge remaining AC unplugged Chris

Laptop shuts down at random intervals - seems to be getting worse, as of today its not even completing the boot cycle. No consistent activity seems to trigger shut down event. Running MS Security Essentials and Advanced SystemCare 3.72 - regular maintenance performed. Tried with AC power only, and battery only - no difference. Diagnostic ideas? Config: Win 7 32bit, 2 GB RAM, Turion 64

Try to go into the BIOS. If you can then a program that is set to start during boot is corrupted, so try to boot into Safe Mode and disable all of them then enable them one at a time until the problem returns - uninstall it. If you can't go in the BIOS then it's a hardware problem and since it has been a progressive one it's most likely either the hard disk or the fan. Clean the fan with a vacuum and a can of compressed air and if this doesn't fixes it remove the hard disk and try again. If it's the same then it's the motherboard and that can be checked and fixed only by a repair shop.
