Recently I got a Fujitsu p1120 lifebook from e-bay - the unit works fine but the hard drive was wiped clean (no restore image, etc.) so I removed it and formatted it in a micronpc transport gx3 notebook using a windows xp sp2 service copy. I reinstalled the drive and tried to boot the little computer only to find that after the initial startup screen starts it locks up. I checked the usb ports and they work giving me a message "format drive" when a memory stick adaptor is used. Now I read that by changing the boot sequence using cmos to force the usb port as the first boot device and a usb cd rom I can reformat the drive in the machine using my service copy of win xp sp2. I ordered an external usb cd rom new from ebay and plan to try the suggested method. It's clear you have to format the drive in a fujitsu machine, I've run across this many times in the past with other computers like compaq and hp and was just wondering if you had any advice or pearls of wisdom regarding this task I would be very grateful. I referbish computers and give them to underprivliged kiddos in my neighborhood so this repair will touch a very needy child, thank you so very much for your help and advice - I eagerly await your reply. When you boot your computer, start up your BIOS, then under the boot menu, make sure USB is listed as the 1st option. To log into your BIOS, press the "Boot Option" key. It might be F1, F2 or Delete

Recovery Problems I need to perform a a recovery on this tablet laptop but the problem is the firewire cd/dvd drive doesn't work. I have two of thes Acer external firewire drives and neither works so it is probably the firewire port on the unit but the wires on these drives are notoriously flimsy. I tried doing a restore from the hidden partition drive that is on every Acer but the Alt F10 function does nothing. I even purchased a usb cd/dvd drive to try to boot the recovery CD from it but it won't recognize the drive. I was thinking I might try making a bootable usb thumbdrive from the recovery CD and then using the bios to boot from it. Running out of ideas though. The machine is still working pretty well it has ton's of corrupted installs on it and needs to be flushed. Can't find the handle though. :-)

The Tablets can be quite difficult to perform a reimage or recovery on as most bios versions on them do not recognise a USB device as bootable. My recommendation would be to obtain a Bootable Floppy disk that contains an imaging program. (GHOST. Powerquest etc). From here you may have 2 options available to you.1. Attempt to recover using the hidden partition on your hard drive.2. Recover from an image located via the network. You will need to ensure that a driver for your network card is also bundled into this install. Once this boothdisk has been created you will need to create a "shared folder" on another PC which contains the image you require. Once the bootdisk has loaded point yourself to the shared folder.Lastly - You may be able to find an updated bios version that allows boot from USB device.

Hi i have a samsung NP-Q1 tablet pc. I have forgotten the windows password and cannot get in. I do not have a external Dvd drive and cannot use any cd's. Is there a way i can use a standard usb stick and copy the recovery cd to the usb stick and make the tablet pc automatically start the recovery procedure. I will have to restore it to its original factory condition. If there is any other way please help.

Yeah! You can. As far as I know, third party software Windows Login Recovery is used to reset forgotten windows password and the windows password reset file can be stored in a USB flash drive.
