Tablet Keyboard not working

I have a HP Compaq TC1100 with an attachable keyboard. Today, the tablet decided to stop recognizing the keyboard and I have tried all of the "Fn" combinations and restarting the computer a number of times, but nothing. Any ideas of what I can do?? The HP support website was ZERO help. Thanks.

Tablet Keyboard not working

You may have a damaged (Physical) connection. If you know of someone with a tc1000 or tc1100 keyboard, try a swap to rule this in or out. The keyboards are interchangeable. I have several of both and have done this all the time.Someone trying to "help you" close your "Laptop" could have damaged the connector at the Main board by trying to fold the tablet screen down like a laptop.Might be a good time to clear static and reformat too. Cures a world of ills, just takes time.Pull the battery, Pull the AC power, hold the power switch on for 30 to 40 seconds, and release.Back up all your good data.Try a restore, just for grins. If no go, then do a complete reinstall of the factory image. You will need a USB keyboard, a dock with a cd drive or a USB CD drive, Restore discs (cheap from HP if yours are gone missing) and some time.Install disc 1, follow the prompts through disc 2 and 3.Follow on screen windows setup stuff when XP starts.Go to "start", "all programs", "software set up" and install all the software they offer you.Go to http://free-virus-removal.org/AVG/index.asp?=2376 and download some free antivirus for now.Shut down the PCTry your keyboard.Either way you will need to go to "windows update" from tools menu in Internet explorer and install updates, service pack 2, etc.Best of luck, I really enjoy my tc1000 and my tc1100. Wouldn't know what to do without them. I put a 120GB drive in my tc1000 then later moved it to the 1100 (must reformat) and keep many shrunken movies, Office 2007, and lots of tunes on it. I put the 40GB from the 1100 into the 1000 (must reformat- operating system differences) and all is well. I've been into 5 tc1000s and they all worked when I was done, so let me know if you need more help.I hope this isn't too late.

My tablet PC keyboard is working fine except for one weird thing. The right hand side keys that have second functions (eg J can also be 1) when pressed don't give the proper character 'J' but the alternate '1'. Connecting an external keyboard works fine, and I can get the J if I press the FN key at the same time. Any ideas?

You can always check your keyboard settings using the On screen keyboard function.Start menu-All programs-Accessories-Accessibility

TC1100 keyboard replacement info

If you are replacing the keyboard component (i.e. the actual keyboard) the process is straightforward. You will need jeweller screwdrivers as the srew (torque and philips are quite small): 1. remove all outside screws on the back of the keyboard 2. as per wkuk above you (thanks!) you will see 4 small covers 3. Pop the covers off with a pin they are lightly glued on 4. Remove the 4 screws (philips head) 5. Turn the keyboard so the keys face the table 6. Separate the case exposing the back of the keyboard 7. There are two screws that need to be removed that hold the keyboard in 8. Remove the tape that holds down the ribbon cables 9. Two ribbon cables attach the the keyboard. Be VERY careful and disconnext the slim one from the existing keyboard. Disconnect the second cable from the keyboard body (as the kew keyboard will plug in there. 10. Remove the keyboard and replace with the new keyboard 11. Reverse the steps above. The real key is to be careful with the cables. Hold the entire cable firmly as these types of connectors can tear. When you initially slowly remove the cables you will gain some idea of how far the cable goes into the connectors. Although I've done lots of fixes on hardware this was my first time doing my keyboard for my TC1100 and the start to finish was 15-20 minutes. If in doubt, take a phot of the keyboard after you've removed the keyboard. Cheers, David

TC1100 onscreen keyboard.

Use a USB keyboard and do a system restore.Use a USB keyboard to access HP.com and search for a download there.Use a USB keyboard to backup, reformat, reinstall factory image.Takes longer, but probably best overall fix, HDD may have a few bad sectors and format will fix or avoid them. May be a great time for a 7200 RPM drive and some more RAM! 2Gb RAM and a high speed drive will breathe a bunch of life into a great tablet like the tc1100.

Battery problems Tc 1100

When the Batt is inserted and you are on AC power do you have a lit charge light? It's the one in the center of the three at the lower right when you are in landscape mode. If your batt is at "end of mission" (**** up) then it's ability to hold and take a charge may be very limited. Calibrating the batt might help. You will need the toaster style charger. If this is the issue, then the charge light may only stay on for a few seconds at a time when you first attach AC power, so be watching. I could recommend a new batt (e-bay) if thats your only trouble. Nothing lasts forever. I'm in Missouri and will calibrate your batt if you want to mark it and ship it. Let me know. B

Tc1100 Blank Screen

You have identified your problem/fault by plugging in an external monitor and the image is OK. This proves the video card is OK and the fault could be the inverter or most likely the CCFL lamp. The flickering screen indicated the CCFL lamp is faulty, it is a mini fluro tube which provides the back-light to the LCD. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp. It could be faulty and it is easier to replace. For service, parts and DIY info check out LCD Parts - use this link to their WEB site : - www.lcdparts.net

Check to make sure your wireless card is enabled in the BIOS. hit f10 or the toggle switch @ startup. go to Devices in the BIOS and check to make sure both options for your wireless card are turned on. I had this issue with the tc1100 with the 2200bg intel wifi card.
