Recovery Problems I need to perform a a recovery on this tablet laptop but the problem is the firewire cd/dvd drive doesn't work. I have two of thes Acer external firewire drives and neither works so it is probably the firewire port on the unit but the wires on these drives are notoriously flimsy. I tried doing a restore from the hidden partition drive that is on every Acer but the Alt F10 function does nothing. I even purchased a usb cd/dvd drive to try to boot the recovery CD from it but it won't recognize the drive. I was thinking I might try making a bootable usb thumbdrive from the recovery CD and then using the bios to boot from it. Running out of ideas though. The machine is still working pretty well it has ton's of corrupted installs on it and needs to be flushed. Can't find the handle though. :-)

The Tablets can be quite difficult to perform a reimage or recovery on as most bios versions on them do not recognise a USB device as bootable. My recommendation would be to obtain a Bootable Floppy disk that contains an imaging program. (GHOST. Powerquest etc). From here you may have 2 options available to you.1. Attempt to recover using the hidden partition on your hard drive.2. Recover from an image located via the network. You will need to ensure that a driver for your network card is also bundled into this install. Once this boothdisk has been created you will need to create a "shared folder" on another PC which contains the image you require. Once the bootdisk has loaded point yourself to the shared folder.Lastly - You may be able to find an updated bios version that allows boot from USB device.

I thought it was becuase of the ubuntu operating system they put on it so i tried deleteing it and when it boots up it still says ubuntu but when it boots and im on the home page there are no longer the top and bottom menu bars on there where you access the menu, applications, wifi, turnoff or restart options all thats gone!! I cant get the windows xp disk to run please help me i dont know what to do i just spent all this money on this thing for school and now i cant even use it. . Remember i do have the 3 original restore/recovery windows xp disks everytime i put it in the usb cdrom drive it takes me to file browser with the restore folder but it wont run the restore process

Hi First you need to make the USB CD-rom Drive as the first boot device by going to BIOS setup by tapping F2 when the system turns ON , after changing the boot order insert the first disc and restart the computer it should run from the disc.

My pc cdrom/dvd drive failed to read my recovery cd

Are you attempting to boot from a bootable disc? A failed drive can cause the other on the bus not to work. Try each one separate set as master or cs (cable select).

Fujitsu Lifebook P1120 Won't Boot To CD\DVD

Fujitsu seems to have secretly added a Hardware black list for Booting USB DVD-rw.CD-rw drives. I have a Stylistic ST5032D slate. Your either going to have to buy fujitsu's over priced external drive or buy fujitsu's over priced dock. Or What I do is Bought WinImage or any other software that allows writing a ISO image to USB flash drive, this should almost always work. I had to install Windows 7 on my tablet this way. Choose your poison. Good Luck.

Trouble booting! I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 that will sometimes boot to desktop but freezes. Cannot enter anyfiles at this point. Was damaged due to malware. trying to boot from usb but cant seem to make it work. any suggestions on what to do. I do not have an external anything. just usb, i have one of 3 recovery disks for toughbook, cd #1. Need help, any ideas welcome.

You could attempt to boot to safe mode, and run the Start> System Recovery > PC Recovery Application. Otherwise, I'd boot to safe mode, select start, run, type: msconfig, select the startup tab, remove any unwanted startup items that may be causing the system crash. Hope this helps.

When you boot your computer, start up your BIOS, then under the boot menu, make sure USB is listed as the 1st option. To log into your BIOS, press the "Boot Option" key. It might be F1, F2 or Delete
