Toshiba R100 keyboard not working

I did the same some two years ago, with the R100 on. I switched everything off, dismounted the computer body (not the screen)up to the last screw, and dried that sweet coffee from everywhere where I found it. Mostly this was the keyboard and mouse. The motherboard is luckily protected by some plastic sheet. Regarding the keyboard, after disconnecting it from the motherboard, I washed it completely under flowing water and then let it dry for several days. In the meantime, I used a USB one. Since then, I used the same keyboard for two years until now, when it died, apparently rather from some motherboard-related reason than water. So I think - you may get a new keyboard, but if youre lucky, you may as well revive this old one.

Techies, please help! I've been having problems with my Toshiba R15-S822... I get the BSOD when I try to load Windows, but I can start in Safe Mode just fine. I've tried multiple things - system restore, deleting newly installed programs, etc. but nothing worked. I backed up my files and decided to use the Recovery DVD (yes, it is the right DVD), but I get an error message that says "Wrong machine." Changed the boot priority in BIOS to make sure it boots from the CD-rom first, but I still get the same "wrong machine" message. I called Toshiba and they said it's likely a "low level BIOS" problem of some sort and that I would have to take it to a service center to fix it. It's such an old laptop but I like having it as a backup and using the tablet function on occasion...I don't really want to shell out any money to get it fixed. Are there any techies out there who have suggestions on how I can fix this? Thanks!

Toshiba support could be quite correct and service center solution the only one.You could try this from the command line window in safe mode.Open a command window and type CHKDSK /r (there is a space between K&r). It will tell you the drive is locked and would you like it to happen on reboot. Enter y then exit and reboot. It's got me out of trouble a few times.

Tablet onscreen keyboard keeps reversing capslock.

Hi Melissa When does this happen? Hitting Return/Enter/or the key will generally throw this up. It is also noticeable on spreadsheets which jump to the next specified cell and automatically create a leading upper case character in the cell just used. These are operating system or program settings. Try noting when this happens and then re-create it to be sure. Log the sequence to see if there are any keys which are involved (also the length of time or even just tapping a key or spot on the tablet surface can have a totally different meaning) Hope this helps....

This is because it is set to US english keyboard layout rather than UK English layout. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Keyboard and change the language settings

Restore factory settings on a Dell Latitude C510

Get a USB CD drive, insert a winXP pro tablet CD, go into bios and tell it to boot from USB device, turn off, attach the USB drive and fire it up. That should reformat and once you get Winxp working you should be able to get the necessary drivers from the Dell web site. Tech suppt at Dell may sell you a disc for the machine that will restore the factory image, just ask. I got new ones from HP for $10.72 total incl postage! 3 to 5 days, what a deal!Any decent tech should be able to reinstall everything you need for less that $50.00, but you will lose all data on the drive. Who else knows or remembers the login?
