So, whats wrong with it???. Does it give you a no POST solution or are you just asking if the NB could handle the 250GB HDD you want to plug in there???.

Can't install XP

I am working on the basic same problem-TC1000 HP/Compaq.I found that you must have the docking station with the proprietary HP CD/DVD drive in it, you problem i think is that when it reboots, it loses the hook from the USB drive. goto ebay you can get a docking station sheap - make sure it has a cd/dvd drive in the station to make sure not to have anymore problems.Jay

Portege 3500 Hello I have a Portege 3500 and am using Windows XP tablet PC edition. When I turn it on Windows Page shows but then the screen goes blank and it goes no further. It does not have a cd drive so I bought a Philips CD Drive but laptop does not seem to recognise it. Any ideas how I can get the Recovery and Config Builder disks as I have lost Disk 1 and how do I make my cd disk usable or do I have to use a Toshiba cd drive. Much appreciated. Thanks Mrs P

I have had the same problem. I tried a new hard drive but that didn't work. I found the recovery discs I had were faulty and got new ones from Toshiba (took about a week). Connect the CD drive with the first disc installed and power on, hold the "C" key down and it should look to the CD drive to boot up. You can also watch for the "Toshiba" screen which has a line of icons across the bottom (I think they represent *network *CD drive *floppy drive and some others) and you can press the right or left arrow keys and see an indicator under each icon move from one to the next, stop under the CD drive. I was told by a BestBuy Geek squad tech that it could easily be a motherboard error and it's not worth repairing as those parts are more than a new laptop. I did get a blue-screen error message the first time I tried the new recovery discs, but the second time worked. When you're successful the system will be back in 2003 (or whatever year the computer was sold) and you'll have to download updates from Toshiba and from MS Windows. As I'd run the recovery-and-update several times I found that updating Windows XP beyond Service Pak 2 gave me more errors, when I stopped with SP2 it runs OK. It's a great machine but age catches up.

Laptop My son is going college majoring in business and we need to purchase him a laptop but can't decide between a MacBook running Windows and Office Professional (his first choice) or a Lenovo ThinkPad or Lenovo Tablet (X61). Which one would you recommend? Haven't heard too much about Lenovo any thoughts on that.

IBM sold off it's notebook line to LENOVO. The Thinkpads are excellent business machines and for the price of a Macbook that is dual-bootable, you can really do the Thinkpad up nicely. If he was going to college for a design or music or something like that I would go with the Macbook. Since he is going for business, go with the Thinkpad.

Hi, 1. How to transfer/copy bootable XP files onto SD card and then boot up Toshiba Portege M205 from the SD card? 2. Is it possible to made an image of my Windows XP CD on SD card? Regards Tad

Requirements PC running Windows XP/2000 with a CD/DVD burner. USB Flashdrive (Or some way to transfer files to the 3epc once Windows is installed) SD Card, a fast SDHC is recommended of at least 2GB. XP3eSD Utility Hitachi Microdrive Filter Drivers Partedmagic (or another bootable CD with disk cloning software) Windows XP CD (SP2 Only Tested, may work with others) Asus Eee PC (Of course!!)Instructions: Copy all files from your XP Install CD to a folder on your Hard Drive Download the XP3eSD utility and run it to create a new install CD capable of installing Windows to boot off the SD card reader Boot your 3epc from the CD made in step 2 Install Windows onto a FAT partition, deleting all the existing partitions When windows boots for the first time turn off the swap file, system restore, and the screensaver. Then stick your USB thumb drive into the EEE with the Hitachi Microdrive Filter. Next copy the files from your thumb drive to the desktop and then properly remove the thumb drive. Unzip the microdrive files to a folder on the desktop. And Insert your SDHC Card into the EEE. You need to then Hit Start go to run, and type regedit. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USBSTOR\Inside that you should find a directory called something like Disk&Ven_USB2.0&Prod_CardReader_SD0&Rev_0100. Open it. Inside that you should find another directory wich is just a bunch of numbers. Open it. In the right pane you should see a key called "Hardware ID" Right click on it, and select modify. It should list about 7 lines of text. Copy ONLY the first line to the clipboard. Hit cancel, close regedit. Open cfadisk.inf in the directory you unzipped the microdrive filter to. Edit the section called [cfadisk_device] so that rather than containing 11 lines, just have one line. The line begins with: %MicroDrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install,After the comma, hit ctrl V to paste what you coppied from the registry into the file then save the file. Go to Device manager. Under disk drives, you should see SiliconMotion and USB2.0 Card Reader. Right click on the card reader and click update driver. Direct the driver updater window to the Hitachi driver you just edited. It won't detect the driver automatically, you have to specifty that your supplying the disk for the hardware and force it to use the driver. Reboot using the Partedmagic CD or USB Flashdrive, Download it here Create a FAT32 partition on the SD card, same size as the one on the SSD in your 3epc Use 'fdisk -l' to find out the partition names of your SSD and SD. Type this command into a prompt: 'dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/sdb1' When it finishes (it will take some time) type this command: 'dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=1' (Note: If fdisk reported your SSD and SD as different than sda and sdb respectively, you must change that in the dd commands, if unsure ask in the support forums) When it finishes the task is complete, reboot and select to boot from the card reader Re-image the SSD of your 3epc with your restore DVD or USB.

Android System Recovery

Obvious question is what the tablet had been doing during its' last use. Was something newly installed, was system or apps updated, etc. ? Were all the APPs and or system shut down properly ? Did update or installation recommend restarting system, prior to use ? Were multiple installations / updates performed ? Your device appears to be in a recovery boot-loop. As stupid as this may sound ... Is the power adapter connected ? Let battery charge for at least 30 minutes and try again. If battery is low, it may not complete the reset. - you should have seen something on the screen, denoting " wipe and reset " procedure and completion - prior to (#1) Rebooting device Per your post, you have already (#4) wiped the data and instructed the device to reset to factory settings, then (#1) Reboot system. That is the generally accepted reset method This problem is not all that uncommon, it generally results when attempting reset, internal boot commands error for what ever reason. ( can not find the factory restore / recovery file set ). This problem is more common when "fixes ", Specialty " Roots " or "mods" have been installed by the user - making changes to the boot program and commands OR when manufacturer files have been deleted / moved from system access. - Common suggestion is to work backwards through the mod processes and / or attempt to re-install mod or follow the special mod recovery method. Without having available the proper ROM " flash " update / installation file(s), and you may " brick " the device. I recommend you go to manufacturer site and check for available ROM files, reset / reinstallation processes ( memory card method ? ) You state the tablet is less than six months old. You may want to contact manufacturer for possible warranty service. They will most likely ask the referenced obvious questions, to better understand the cause / nature of the device failure and recommend the best immediate possible solution. This may not be what you seek, I hope it will provide better direction.
