PC powers up but does not boot up, nothing but a blank screen and the sound of the cooling fan.

The first step would be to make sure the computer is off, unplug any and all devices from the system, as well as the power cord, then flip the computer over, and remove the battery. With all devices and power sources removed, flip the computer back over, and hold the power button in the on position for approximately 20 seconds (this is what's called a "power reset"). After that has finished, plug only the power adapter into the computer (leave the battery unplugged) and attempt to turn the computer on this way. If this works, then it may be either the battery or one of the devices plugged into the computer that may be causing the problem. If this doesn't resolve it, then the other step that you can take is to try removing the RAM, Hard Drive and Wireless LAN cards inside each of the panels at the bottom of the unit (you will need to have a #0 or #1 philips screwdriver handy to remove the protective panels). Also make sure that you are in a clean environment when handling these parts by hand, as static electrivity can damage the parts and void your warranty, if you have one. Always make sure that you are grounding yourself somehow when handling these parts (usually touching a metal panel inside the computer will discharge any electricity in your body without damaging components, just don't touch an actual component). If you can remove all of the internal workings of the laptop, again, plug only the ac power in, and try turning on the computer. If it works, the computer should begin emitting long beeps, which denotes a "No RAM installed" error. If it doesn't resolve the issue and you don't hear long beeps, then you have a motherboard failure, and should seek the assistance of an authorized HP repair center (most likely through your place of purchase, or by calling HP directly at 1-800-HP INVENT). If you hear the long beeps though, insert one of your sticks of RAM, and again, turn the computer on with just the power adapter. If you see the HP splash logo on your screen, then chances are it's the other stick of RAM that has failed, and you will need to get it replaced. If it doesn't resolve the issue, then switch the sticks of RAM and try again. The idea here is to try and isolate the fault to a single part, and replace that one part. If you are not familiar or comfortable in removing these components, please seek the assistance of a certified technical specialist from one of your local computer stores.

Take a flash light and see if you can see the desktop at all. If you cannot see it, try hooking it up to another monitor and see if that works. If there is no luck then your monitor has gone bad

Blank Screen Aloha, I am having a problem with my Toshiba Satellite R-15. I was on it the other night when the screen went blank and it was was still running. I thought the battery or the connection was the problem,so I turned the power off and the laptop would boot up and still no monitor. I did turn the screen so it was on tablet mode, when this all happened and the screen was on for about a minute or so thats when it went blank(do not know if that makes a difference or not) Do you have any suggestions on what to do? I do not have a reference manual to help troubleshoot. Mahalos Willy J

The bad thing about this is that it could be a software related issue or a hardware issue. If you're willing, you can disassemble the unit and check for a damaged or loose connector to the monitor. If there doesn't appear to be any issues there it may well be that the screen has gone bad or there is something wrong with the driver/setting on the unit itself that is causing the screen to saty off. I'd move forward with the hardware issue first though.

Blank screen after power is on

The best way to ensure the computer boots up is to connect it to an external computer through the vga port.If there is image, the problem is a bronken screen, if not, it is a motherboard malfunction. The sollution for both? Talking to HP or your vendor to replace the notebook. As for data recovery, I wouldn't advise to remove the hard drive since vendors or HP consider it warranty violation

I have upgraded my tc1100 to 1.5Gs of memory. The description on the memory module is ( Super * Talent D400SBG/H STT DDR-400 PC3200 SO-DIMM Hynix 1G/64X8). The problem is the computer initially boots into windows for a moment then goes blank. Even though the screen goes blank the power light remains lite and the charging light remains lite even after the power plug has been unpluged. Before the screen goes blank, for a moment there's a blue screen indicating some type of new hardware conflict.

It sounds like that memory should be compatible with your tablet PC. It may be a bad memory stick -- try to replace it with a different memory stick (preferably from a different manufacturer) and see if it still gives you the same problem. If you didn't have this problem before you installed the new memory, a different memory stick will likely correct the issue. You can also try removing the new memory and see if the PC boots up like it should.

My daughters hp tx2500z will not boot up. I am able to get an intial screen and the windows circle then the screen goes blank. The led lights are all still on and the fan is still running. I have tried doing a number of suggestions that the hp web sight has stated including a complete system reinstall. Everything goes through successfully and when it comes time to do the start up again the same blank screen shows up. I checked the hard drive and that tested good as well as the internal memory. Have you any ithe suggestions?

Remove the hdd and power it up. If no picture then the GPU has failed. Try an external monitor.
